Eclipse Beers for Your 2017 Solar Eclipse Experience
It’s not every day that a total solar eclipse occurs. The U.S. from coast to coast will see the moon align with the sun – dimming the sky – on Monday, August 21, 2017. Cue Bonnie Tyler’s 1983 hit ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ for dramatic effect.
It’s somewhat of a rare spectacle. As excitement and curiosity mounts leading up to the eclipse, some North American craft breweries are creating limited-edition beers to commemorate the event. From stouts and porters to golden hued pale ales and lagers, there’s a style for everyone to celebrate appropriately.
The solar eclipse has spurred breweries and bars to cash in on the phenomenon by having eclipse-themed events and parties. Food specials, beer specials, solar-eclipse-watching eyewear and more!
We think it would also be fun to check-in an eclipse beer on Monday in Untappd. Now to get our hands on some of those beers!
Along with our own research for all things Beer + Solar Eclipse, our friend at MyBeerBuzz.com helped us track down many more as well as graciously supplying some of the beer images below. 💋 🍻

“During a total solar eclipse, the normal rhythms of Earth are disrupted. The sudden blocking of the sun makes the day appear to be night in more ways than just the loss of light. The temperature drops and plants and animals react as if it is dusk – birds can be seen flying home to settle in for sleep in the middle of the day,” according to NASA.
Other Beers with “Eclipse” in the Name
While not brewed specifically for the solar eclipse, these beers do use the word “eclipse” in the name. Could be good options for your Solar Eclipse party on Monday.

“The fact that total solar eclipses occur at all is a quirk of cosmic geometry. The moon orbits an average of 239,000 miles from Earth — just the right distance to seem the same size in the sky as the much-larger sun. However, these heavenly bodies line up only about once every 18 months,” says Space.com.

“This path, where the moon will completely cover the sun and the sun’s tenuous atmosphere – the corona – can be seen, will stretch from Salem, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina.” noted by NASA. Did someone say “Corona?” No… not the beer! But we do have beer on our minds.
